2 Young Callahos Join Jeanne Korber’s Competitive String

The graded event hosted by Burlington Stables this past weekend saw some wonderful young horses strutting their stuff. With the ever-changing game of showjumping, a strong string is crucial to the longevity of our top riders. While we’ve recently reported on the likes of Neriske Prinsloo Hill, Gareth Neill, Aisling Triggol, and Lorette Knowles-Taylor strengthening their strings, Jeanne Korber from the Korber Equestrian team has also been hard at work with several new mounts.

With her longstanding connection to the Callaho Warmblood Stud, Jeanne Korber has often been seen aboard some young Callaho talents. Her first notable Callaho was Callaho Fiorella with whom Jeanne successfully climbed the ranks and made several appearances in the 1.50m classes before the mare was sent back to stud for breeding. Since then Jeanne has been actively competing with Callaho Lexington (Lissabon) who is the son of Fiorella. After making their 1.50m debut in the latter half of 2020, Lexington has been a formidable partner with Jeanne often seeing them in the places and currently sitting in joint 9th place on the 1.50m horse and rider rankings for 2021.

The affiliation with the stud has provided many opportunities for Jeanne including the addition of the gorgeous chestnut gelding, Callaho Pica’s Boy K, by Con Coriano out of a Pablo’s As mare. The mare, Picadilly Z, plays an important role in the acquisition of this 5-year-old gelding as Picadilly is the mare that enabled Jeanne to break into the 1.50m ranks. They won many classes together and Jeanne’s confidence was evident on her trusty steed. Since the retirement of Picadilly, she has been living the life of luxury at the Callaho Warmblood Stud and has since been a fantastic broodmare. The birth of Pica’s Boy saw the plan set in motion that Jeanne would be able to compete the son of her top mare.

Their competitive journey has now begun, and while Pica’s Boy debuted in the ring late last year, 2021 will see the pair look to establish a strong presence on an active 2021 calendar. While the gelding is still young, Jeanne’s hopes for this youngster will be to once again break into the 1.50m heights and have the sentimental knowledge of having competed both him and his dam at the top levels of the sport in the same way that Jeanne competed both Fiorella and Lexington in the top heights.

The second young addition to Jeanne’s string of horses is the 5-year-old mare Callaho Talana. By Tolano van’t Riethof out of an Argentinus mare, Talana is a solid mare with great technique and plenty of scope. While she appears to be a little more sensitive and quirky compared to Pica’s Boy, the ‘fire in her soul’ is a great attribute for a top-level campaigner and is the right type to compliment Jeanne’s competitive nature.

The addition of these 2 talented youngsters is a complement to Jeanne’s string and alongside Your Perfect Africa’s La Mina Z and Callaho Lexington, Jeanne is sure to be winning many more competitions in the future.

Congratulations and best of luck on your new journey.
