2021 President’s Cup Rules Clarified

There have been many rumours spread across the showjumping circuit about the potential rule changes for the upcoming Erreplus Presidents Cup at Maple Ridge Equestrian Centre in just a few short weeks. The proposal that was tabled for discussion involved the limiting of open riders to only being able to compete one horse in the main President’s Cup classes. But, after numerous discussions, the decision has been made to retain the same rule-set as previously implemented.

The ideology behind the suggested rule change was to create a more level playing field by limiting our top-level riders to just one horse per athlete only but this suggestion has been denied for several reasons and competitors will still be eligible to compete on 2 horses in the final Cup Championship should they have the horses available.

While the initial suggestion to limit riders to just one horse caught some support, the suggestion may have underestimated the ramifications linked to this and the fact that current rule-sets can not be changed mid-way through a year as rules should be finalized by January 1st of each year.  Wherever there are suggestions for rule changes or adaptations, these must be addressed and finalised before the start of a new year.

With President’s Cup just a few weeks away, the excitement from the riders is already mounting. The 2020 victor, Nicola Sime-Riley, will be making her way back for this year’s competition looking to retain the title as she competes against a strong field of athletes which will most likely include Nicole Horwood, Lisa Williams, Jonathan Clarke, and Govett Triggol amongst many others.

An incredibly unique competition that required riders to earn the title over 3 separate competitions, the strength of the field is as high as it’s ever been and will ensure the best athlete takes home the trophy. Look out for our full Erreplus President’s Cup Preview coming soon.
