Callaho Warmblood Stud Releases Winter Edition Auction Lots

Callaho Warmblood Stud, The JumpOff

After two decades of breeding top-class sport horses in South Africa, the Callaho Warmblood Stud is shaking up its business model by bringing us not one, but two auctions during 2021. Starting on the 11th of May, the first auction of the year – the Winter Edition – will have 21 riding horses and 2 broodmares available. The lots have finally been published, so we’re taking a look at what the first auction has to offer and who we think will be the ones to look out for.

The initial announcement showcases the horses that are available, their bloodlines, birth date, and height, along with the reserve, or minimum sale price, on each lot. Further information such as veterinary ratings, videos, and discipline suitability will be made available on the first of March. While the information currently available is limited, the photos released are just a teaser of what’s to come.

At first look, the sires include Bolzano du Quinze, Lissabon, For Joy, Larison, Sampras, and Tolano Van’t Riethof, among others; stallions with great track records and bloodlines from some of the best showjumpers in the world. Alongside their own proven track records, the sires also showcase their ‘stamp’ with several notable previous auction horses now successfully competing at the top levels of the sport including Callaho Lexington (Lissabon) with Jeanne Korber and Callaho Freedom (For Joy) with Shaun Neill. However, notable by his exclusion, there are no progeny on auction from Callaho Casparon, who has been a consistent campaigner in the 1.50m grades with Callaho team rider, Carl Boonzaaier.

Bolzano Du Quinze is one of the Callaho stallions that is becoming increasingly popular, as his offspring display incredible techniques and attitude towards their work. Available on the first auction, Callaho Balvenie and Callaho Beaumont are both half-siblings to the show-stopping Callaho Bogart who is currently under the tuition of Lorette Knowles-Taylor. For those unsure of Bolzano’s siring ability, one look at his current offspring on the ground and the uncertainty quickly fades.

Another young stallion that many have been keeping their eyes on is Callaho’s Larison. Currently competed by Govett Triggol, Larison is another hot commodity at the moment with his own exuberant character, bold jump, and his ability to pass on his best traits. With offspring on the ground including Callaho Lariboo, who has been a joy to watch under Ashlee Taylor, the 2 available young horses, Larido and Laros are sure to be some of the most sought-after youngsters of the Winter Edition.

Callaho Warmblood Stud will be hosting their 2nd auction – the Summer Edition – in October, but while many will choose to wait for that, the horses available this May are bound to attract attention and bring out the most exciting bidding of any Callaho auction to date. After last year’s successful online auction in response to COVID-19, Callaho has once again decided to go the online route for both of its auctions, appealing to a broader audience than ever before.
