Blouberg Stables Team member Passes Away

The sport of showjumping, and all equestrian disciplines, is definitely a team sport. A great team can make all the difference between winning and losing and one of the most important members of the team is the groom. Working tirelessly behind the scenes caring for our treasured horses, learning their personalities, their moods, and often creating bonds, grooms are an undervalued part of the sport. Unfortunately, the loss of a team member is always devastating and such is the case for the members of Blouberg Stables.

Sadly, Ali, an integral part of the Blouberg Stables team for 15 years, lost his battle a few nights ago and passed on. A right-hand man to Chris Van Der Merwe, Ali stood beside Chris through many of his competitive highlights including his victories at President’s Cup, Reonet Midrand World Cup Qualifier, Shongweni World Cup Qualifier, and Easter Festival. He was said to be a loyal supporter, an amazing horseman, and absolutely loved his horses. A committed team member to Blouberg Stables, Ali’s departure has deeply affected all who are left behind.
