The President’s Cup at Maple Ridge Equestrian Farm has been an exciting show so far with several riders stepping up into the higher grades. Another rider who was seen in the 1.50m class on Friday morning was Kayla Gertenbach on the striking Like Mike van Pela Graca. While Kayla is no stranger to the top level of the sport having done a stint in Europe, her equine partner, Like Mike, made his debut in the 1.50s this weekend. The feat is even more incredible as Kayla was sidelined for most of last year after a serious accident in which she was kicked by a horse.

Kayla has been a steady competitive rider at the highest levels for quite a few years both locally and in Europe. Having returned from her European campaign, Kayla took the ride on Like Mike van Pela Grace over from Carl Boonzaaier and has successfully climbed the grades with the bay gelding over the course of the year.  With an incredible debut in the 1.50m, 2nd round of the President’s Cup, the pair claimed a 2nd place podium finish in a very competitive class. With the assistance of coach, Ronnie Healy, Kayla and Mike have a very bright future ahead of them at the highest levels of showjumping.
