The showjumping industry in South Africa is highly competitive and extremely difficult to get into as it’s often beyond the financial means of many families. However, the showjumping committee and community in KwaZulu-Natal have proactively been trying to promote the sport in their province with several initiatives. The KZN Committee, headed by Diane Baxter, understood the developmental needs in showjumping and created a free show in which riders got to compete without the financial strain of entry fees. This was an opportunity for many riders to strut their stuff and get a feel for the competitive circuit which resulted in a growth of new faces. Following this initiative, Grant Langley of Foresyte Stud and Equestrian has created yet another avenue to try and help grow the sport.

Grant, who is a top-level athlete, member of the KZN Showjumping committee, and owner of Langley Equestrian and Forestye Stud, has created an opportunity of his own to enable one Pony Rider and one Junior to earn a sponsorship including 6 months worth of free lessons at Langley Equestrian Centre.

The opportunity presented by Grant is an exciting way for him to share his showjumping knowledge and horsemanship with an eager and dedicated Pony Rider and Junior/Young Rider and harness their potential in the right direction to a successful showjumping career. For all the applicants wishing to secure this sponsorship, the selection process will start on Sunday the 24th of January at the Langley Equestrian Centre in Summerveld and will cost R300 for the day’s clinic. This clinic day will enable Grant to spot up-and-coming talent, with a focus placed on riders who show determination and good training ethics.

This opportunity presented is a remarkable way of securing the showjumping future and encouraging our youth to dedicate and commit their time and talents to the sport. Growth and longevity can only be achieved by nurturing the developmental stages and this is exactly what the KZN province has been focused on doing, setting an incredible example for the rest of the country to follow.
