Eight years after she last jumped in the 1.50m grades, Lara Neill has once again cracked into the top echelons of the sport. At the ongoing 2020 Maple Ridge President’s Cup, a show that has already seen the likes of Hanelize Kamffer and Kayla Gertenbach go 1.50m, Lara Neill and 9-year-old Ultimo WC jumped the second round of the President’s Cup, a one round with a jump off competition a 1.50m in height.

What makes the achievement even more remarkable is that Lara bred and produced Ultimo WC herself. Ultimo WC is a gelding by Ulano van Labos out of a Wunderbar mare, instantly recognizable by his unorthodox canter gait that gives him the impression of quite literally skipping around the track.

Lara was thrilled with the achievement. In a Facebook post after the class, she said, “I bred a horse and today we jumped our first 1m50 class together! Ultimo WC, you have your own way and a lion heart and today you made me a very proud rider and teammate. It has been a long road building a string and finding my way back to the 1m50 classes and today I jumped my first 1m50 class in 8 years! What a happy day!”

Lara has been a competitive open rider for a number of years now, representing Delmon Mining and Civils, as well as her own brand of riderwear and tack, Equestrian Affair.
