Marlene Sinclair’s Douglas M Returns

Marlene Sinclair has been widely regarded as one of showjumping’s nicest personalities; a down to earth woman with great compassion and love for her horses coupled with her enormous talent at the top levels of our sport, making Marlene a relatable figure in the industry. After her sensational victory of the World Cup Qualifier Series in 2018, Marlene’s competitive career has, unfortunately, been erratic and inconsistent but that could now change with the return of Douglas M.

The last 3 years have seen the forced retirement of Marlene’s incredible Camaro from a freak injury incurred in competition and the absence of her impressive chestnut stallion, Douglas M, due to recurring issues. However, Marlene re-emerged in competition in the latter half of 2020 with the stallion Oxer van de Boortoren. This new partnership that emerged was as exciting for Marlene as it was for her fanbase and with consistent competitive features since then, another piece of good news has come for Marlene as Douglas M has made an appearance once again.

The Burlington Stables graded show that took place this last weekend had some great displays from up and coming young horses including Callaho Pica’s Boy and Callaho’s Joe Cool, but it also marked a momentous occasion for Marlene as her special stallion by Douglas out of a Narcos II mare, made his first reappearance in the competitive arena since the end of 2019. Half brother to Capital Pretorious, who was snatched up as the 3rd best-seller at the 2020 Capital Stud auction, Douglas M has had a successful competitive career in South Africa prior to his extended holiday. While the pair were only entered in the 1.10m classes, the return to competition was the key achievement and providing 2 beautiful clear rounds, Marlene looked to be thrilled and confident with her partner back in the arena.

Having previously competed up to the 1.40m heights with Douglas, the now-13-year-old stallion is certainly mentally ready and capable of reaching those heights again soon and hopefully, the partnership will be seen in the top levels before long.

Congratulations Marlene, may the future remain bright for you and Douglas M.
