October Recap: SA’s Top 5 Showjumping Stories

The month of October has been filled with action and a number of showjumping highlights from across the country, with numerous provincial championships, new partnerships forming, and national titles being won. As we head into an action-packed November, we look back on the past month to see which events you’ve found most exciting. Click on the headlines to read the full story.

No. 5: Capital Don Cumarco Retires

After an illustrious career at the top echelons of the sport in South Africa under Nicole Horwood, the Capital stallion has been retired from competition. He will make his last public appearance at November’s South African Adult Championships.

No. 4: Laurence Mowatt and Evergreen M Ready to Take On Europe

After a drawn-out quarantine period, Evergreen M finally arrived in Ireland to be reunited with Laurence Mowatt. The incredibly talented duo are set to take on the European circuit and will be using Ireland as their base of operation.

No. 3: Hanelize Kamffer Rides Her First 1.50m

Our third most popular story this month saw Hanelize Kamffer, a young rider from White River, Mpumalanga, jump her first-ever 1.50m class at President’s Cup. She managed to qualify for the final event and picked up valuable experience riding White Waters On Time at the highest level.

No. 2: Nicola Sime-Riley Crowned 2020 President’s Cup Champion

After an exciting President’s Cup that saw a number of new riders reach the 1.50m level, the biggest story of the event was Nicola Sime-Riley claiming a record 3rd President’s Cup title.

No. 1: 2021 Hind Boot Rule Changes

2021 sees the final stage of a phased implementation of the hind boot rules come into effect, placing all age categories under the same boot rules. We broke down the ins and outs of what is and isn’t allowed to make sure you’re ready for the 2021 showjumping season.  

What to Look Forward to in November

An action-packed November kicks off with the Burlington Cup running from the 4th to the 8th followed by the Western Cape Adult Champs from 13-15 November. From the 18th to the 22nd, The Durban Shongweni Club will play host to the South African Adult Championships while the weekends either side will see the final 2 legs of the FEI World Jumping Challenge take place in Gauteng.
