Despite the uncertain start to 2021, with new Lockdown Level 3 regulations in place, the year has kicked off with a great deal of excitement, news, and the start of the new show season that is jam-packed with national events. Looking back over the month, we bring to you to top 5 most-viewed articles of January:

No.5 – Top 1.50m Horse, The Burgh’s Epomein, Sold

The excitement over this piece of news is that the highly competitive and scopey mare will be joining the string of another great 1.50m rider. The mare, who rose to prominence with Charley-Ann Crockart will continue to impress in the 1.50m competitions and will hopefully become a regular feature in the world cup competitions for the 2021 season with a new rider, Govett Triggol.

No.4 – Lockdown Level 3 Regulations and What they Mean for Showjumping

While the pandemic is ongoing, the equestrian community has been fortunate to be able to continue operating but there are some limitations and regulations that still need to be enforced and abided by. While some might see the rules as unnecessary, the opportunity to retain competitions depends on the support from the entire equestrian community.

While we are very fortunate to have some incredible showjumping venues available to us, the new kid on the block is a breathtaking setup in the North West province. Owned by a horse-loving family, the new venue is committed to providing a one-of-a-kind experience to the best showjumpers in the country.

No.2 – Proposed SASJ Rule for Pony Riders to Limit Age of Competition in Open Classes

This suggested rule change definitely caught the attention of the showjumping community with its proposed adjustments. While it’s not yet certain what the final outcome will be, either decision will be well within SASJ’s rights and should be respected by the showjumping community.

No.1 – Rotoflo Backs Kelly O’Connor’s Return to Europe

The biggest story of 2021 is the loss of a great South African showjumper to the European circuit. While it is sad that we will no longer have the privilege of watching Kelly in action locally, the opportunity set out for her is incredible and we wish her every possible success with her new journey alongside team sponsor, Rotoflo. Fortunately, Rotoflo will still be active in South Africa alongside their new team in Europe.

As the month of February begins, an exciting start to the National calendar kicks off with the Riders Grand Prix, sponsored by Reonet, at Kyalami Equestrian Park from the 12th to the 14th of February. Closing out the month of love will be the Stokkiesdraai Cup, sponsored by Puresan, from the 26th to the 28th.
