Chris Van Der Merwe is a young, highly competitive showjumper and coach based in Limpopo where he and his wife, Leona Van Der Merwe, operate out of Blouberg Stables. After rising to prominence as a talented Junior rider from the Western Cape, Chris moved up to the Highveld and resumed tutelage under Barry Taylor. Subsequently, Chris reached prominence in 2019, when he and Capital Chantilly (now the ride of Nicole Horwood), dominated the 1.50m levels, racking up Grand Prix victories and the South African FEI WCQ Series win.

Chris has also enjoyed his fair share of exhibition victories, winning the 6 Bar event numerous times on Capital Castigo. Since his rise to prominence, Chris has focused his attention on the development of his own sport horse sales platform, VDM Sporthorses, alongside his continued competitive efforts on his top horses, and his growing string. Chris is notoriously talented when it comes to the production of young horses and the schooling of tricky horses, which has made him a go-to for all the top riders in this regard.
