1.30m

The 1.30m classes started with an A2 Competition in an enormous class of over 90 riders competing for the win. A speed class with lots of available turns and space to really motor on, the top spot of the podium was claimed by Mpumalanga-based rider, Neriske Prinsloo, riding GCS Max Van-tastique NPS, with second place being snapped up by Kayla Gertenbach and Locarno Ballade. Rounding off the top 3 placings was Nicola Sime-Riley and the bouncy Sunny Park Stables Crispin.

With the second class run as a 2-phase competition, riders returned to test their skills over the 12 fence track but with another 80+ competitors competing, the victory was claimed by Chelsey Gertenbach on Frischgewaagd Monteo. Chris van der Merwe and Jacob Peech’s Capital Chatman clinched 2nd, and 3rd was awarded to Leona van der Merwe on Hey I’m Wilma.

The final class of the 1.30m height would be the Reonet 1.30m Championship. A testing 1st round with a time allowed that forced the riders to up their pace saw only 15 riders make their way into the jump-off. With some very fast combinations and the last horse through the finish beams, the top spot on the podium was claimed by the Western Cape-based rider, Debora Engela, riding her Capital-bred mare, Denise. 2nd place was taken by Kayla Gertenbach on Locarno Ballade, and completing the top 3, Ronnie Healy on the impressive Cornet’s Mandarino.

1.35m

The 1.35m height category is arguably one of the most exciting heights to watch at the moment with numerous highly competitive combinations always leaving you on the edge of your seat in a jump-off. This show, once again, highlighted the speed, turns and competitiveness of the 1.35m classes as each class saw a new winner.

The A2 competition was the opening class of the show for the 1.35m competitors with a few new combinations amongst the many entrants. As the class drew to a close, Oscar Ncube, of LinRowe stables, jumped into the lead on Callaho Le Padino, beating out 2nd-placed Francesca Sanne and Callaho Confidor and 3rd-placed Paige Goetsch on Biogen’s Caspar.

Next on the agenda for the 1.35m competitors would be the 2-phase competition sponsored by Back On Track. The top 3 positions in this competition were claimed by 3 highly competitive horse and rider combinations with Cailin Mcdonald on the Delmon Mining and Civils-owned Saturne Du Pachis taking top honours. The victory was made even sweeter for the duo, as it was announced after the show that Saturne would be going into retirement. The remaining two spots on the podium would be claimed by Rainer Korber and Countrylife Callaho Lansink in 2nd and Danielle Lemmer in 3rd on her trusty steed, The Courier Guy Callaho Elmo.

On an exciting final day, the Back On Track 1.35m Championship proved to be incredibly exciting, with the live-streamed final day meaning viewers could tune in from across the country. With 16 combinations making their way into the jump-off, and some true speed-demons vying for the win, when the curtain dropped, Rainer Korber stepped onto the top step of the podium after claiming victory on Countrylife Callaho Lansink in 39.21 seconds. With an inside line to the last fence that no other rider spotted, Tamar Gliksman and Outeniqua earned themselves 2nd place in a time of 39.36 seconds, while Charley-Ann Crockart and Serenela’s Capital Lord Derby managed to hang on to third place in 39.71 seconds.

1.40m

The 1.40m classes saw some beautiful showjumping with all 9 podium places across the three competitions claimed by 9 different horses and 8 different riders.

The 1st competition would differ to the other heights as the 1.40m riders would first take on a 2-phase track designed by Kate Launder (FEI 3*). With the class sponsored by Delport and Thomson, the prize money on offer would encourage riders to step up a gear, and they delivered in fine fashion. Mandy Johnstone and Lambus claimed victory, while a fine effort from Natal-based Heather Mostert and Conthezze saw the pair claim second, just weeks after their win at the recent KZN Championships. Desiree Pienaar and Le Cadeau finished their round clear to claim 3rd place.

A single round against the clock awaited the 1.40s as their second class and, this time, the victory would be claimed by the Mpumalanga-based Hanelize Kamffer on Shadow Fly on the same day in which she made her 1.50m debut. Second and third place were both claimed by Lorette Knowles-Taylor on Amor Warande Z and Callaho Conneisha, respectively.

Equipage, a division of Hollard, sponsored the 1.40m Championship class which showcased some top level riders and horses looking for the victory. With 10 competitors making their way into the jump-off from 35 starters, the jump-off provided entertainment for viewers with multiple inside lines and turns available. Western Cape-based Ivan van der Sijde riding Rivervale’s Best Wishes came home in a time of 38.98 which looked unbeatable until Govett Triggol and Callaho’s Wolke 334 stepped into the ring. With incredible turns and plenty of pace, the pair claimed victory in 37.04 seconds leaving Ivan in 2nd place, while Ronnie Lawrence secured third with a smooth clear in the jump-off on Optimus.
